There's a really long, straight stretch of road between Salt Lake City, Utah and the Nevada border. This stretch of road goes straight over the Great Salt Lake for miles and miles. Here, on the Bonneville Speedway, world records for speed on land (over 600 mph ... faster than me!) have been made. The grayish stuff in the foreground is really white salt. Wikipedia says it's up to 6 feet (1.8 m) deep in some spots. The sunset was so incredible that my mother quickly parked the car on the shoulder to let me take pictures even though we were on an interstate highway and not really supposed to stop ;-)
