Well, this is certainly not my best on this blog ... sorry about that. But what's a blog like this for? In my case, it's partially a place to put images of things I want to remember. Today was the first time I've ever been to a horse race thing. It was at a racetrack, but the event wasn't exactly a race. It was more a training session for this kind of horse racing (chariot, maybe?). I know nothing about horses, but it was really fun and interesting, especially since I got to go into the stalls and all over the place there with a horse owner.

• Wow! This is incredible. It is very, very difficult to get shots like this without high speed strobe lights. It's one in a million. This reminds me of photogaphic studies of motion made by Eadweard Muybridge in the late 1800's. He proved that all of a horses hooves are off the ground at certain points during a trot. He did all sorts of other motion studies with atheletes, also.

• Wow, thanks for all the kind comments. The reason I complained a bit about this picture is because of the lighting. I thought it was kind of harsh. I would've loved it if I had been able to get more detail in the horse's face, fewer blowouts on the whites, and more gentle light overall. But I'm so glad to read your comments saying you think it's okay! Robert and Cindy, it was Muybridge I thought of when I first decided to post this, but I couldn't remember his name. Thanks again!!

• Ok, I'll stick my neck out... The composition is great but I do agree with Amy's comment on the lighting. It is rather harsh and for me it has weakened the overall contrast of the shot.
